Ask HN: Mac App Store way to install latest-compatible app

4 点作者 ics将近 2 年前
Just recently I was trying to install an app which requires macOS 13.3 while I am on 13.2. For various reasons I am not rushing to update solely because of this app but I'm also certain it doesn't have any real requirement for the latest OS. My question is simply: does the App Store (macOS or iOS) have any way to allow installation of prior versions, possibly based on "last compatible with your device/OS"?
One way I've seen this work in the wild is for developers to upload a new app for major version bumps, i.e. "FooApp" works on 12.0+ but "FooApp 2" requires 13.3+.
I am aware that this carries a slight risk of distributing software with known bugs and that it is against Apple's interest of having everyone use (buy) the latest and greatest.
