They've already had this in my country (UK) for a good few years. Billboards with ads occasionally scroll past the cityscape. I'm not overjoyed by it, but it's implemented quite tastefully and they're often advertising shows, which is perhaps the most cohesive thing they could advertise there.<p>I assume there's probably a way to pay to remove ads, but the nature of the Roku app store is that you can replace the screensaver with anything you want anyway.<p>Overall I think it's a fairly harmless addition, and I'm all for it if it helps keep the Roku devices priced at the excellent value point they're at.
