Disruptive protest helps rather than hinders activists’ cause, experts say

I think most people tend to simply put themselves wherever they think the "middle" is of any political issue. The "middle" being whatever they think the middle of their "in-group" thinks. Out-group's opinion doesn't matter. Seeing people push the boundaries on one side moves the middle slightly closer to that side.
