I've never liked the argument that "the world around you was constructed by experts and scientists who knew complex math, therefore to interact with that world you need to know complex math".<p>The argument that Pixar software engineers (<i>not</i> the animators) know linear algebra and calculus, therefore you as a viewer of the movie need to know it is nonsense, and most people can see through that.<p>As I see it, most people don't need to know more than high school level Algebra. Maybe trigonometry. As engineers, we think that the world needs to know what we know, but they truly don't
