Hey HN, it seems like https://bash.org/ is down and not coming up again. Does anyone know what happened to it? This is the only place I could think of asking about it.
If they are missing man-power or money to continue hosting it, I'm willing to help!
I don't know the answer to your question, only that bash.org goes down every few years causing some discussion on here and Reddit then it comes back, sometimes without an HTTPS cert for a while. No idea if it is gone permanently this time. Perhaps you can find the admin/moderators contact info somewhere in the snapshots. They list qdb@bash.org as a contact email assuming their GMail account is still active. I see live MX records pointing to Google. Please let us know if they respond to your email.
The last snapshots on archive.is are from May 2022 [1] and June 2022 [2]
[1] - https://archive.is/8IRjm
[2] - https://archive.is/BYZ9l
I, too, tried to load it up today and realized it looks no longer. A search for if it existed anymore brought me here. I would have thought it's retirement would have been larger news or maybe I'm just out of the loop.
I think that websites as old as bash.org ought to just release database dumps so that other people have a fair shot at getting them back when they croak, sua sponte, without the sustained active cooperation of the most-recent maintainers. There are a number of websites that have lasted for decades because of this (and having the contents released CC0 doesn't hurt either, of course).
