Reuters says &quot;S&amp;P 500 chief executives made $16.7 million on average in 2022&quot;. Considering that a bad CEO can destroy billions of dollars of market cap, I don&#x27;t think this pay is unreasonable. Average NBA pay was $9.5 Million <a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.statista.com&#x2F;statistics&#x2F;1120680&#x2F;annual-salaries-nba-wnba&#x2F;" rel="nofollow noreferrer">https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.statista.com&#x2F;statistics&#x2F;1120680&#x2F;annual-salaries-...</a>, and I think a CEO&#x27;s job is more important and should be paid more. In general, CEO pay should be determined by shareholders and not outsiders.<p>CEO pay vs. that of the median worker is a silly metric. It&#x27;s not clear that the CEO of an investment bank should be paid much more than that of a fast food chain. Investment banks don&#x27;t pay better because their CEOs are more generous.
