I'm a serious open source person, and even I'm investing in Nvidia for AI, until AMD not only matches price:performance&functionality, but also shows that they're committed to open source and Linux.
Maybe AMD is thinking of this Ryzen AI as only for consumer gaming PCs (currently primarily Windows). And/or maybe they're pressured by Microsoft to sabotage Linux this way.
Linux and other open source development tends to happen around consumer hardware. We already have enough problems with Linux and open source losing ground, due to even many random Hacker News developers creating new grassroots network effects behind Windows and Mac, instead of behind open platforms.
If AMD isn't even investing enough engineers in open source Linux for their AI products (including consumer devices), then I'm not going to bother with the extra headache of dealing with AMD AI stuff in addition to Nvidia.
If AMD is going to push us to lose further ground with open source and Linux, this is an additional way that Nvidia is looking like a relatively better choice.
