This is a very interesting proposal of mechanism for how some foods might promote weight loss.<p>For the TLDRers: Most foods promote the immediate release of GLP-1, which reduces hunger. But it’s quickly broken down so doesn’t last long. Fermentable fibers, specifically beta-glucan from barley and some other plants, cause another wave of nutrient intake when bacteria ferment them, resulting in a second shot of GLP-1 hours after the first one.
