I suggest https://github.com/WerWolv/ImHex instead

I really like this program's UI. I assume it's built on the textual library?
Unfortunately, my main use case for a hex editor is editing very large files (firmware images, disk images, etc.), which hexabyte doesn't seem to handle too well. For a few smaller test files I tried, it allocates memory about ~2.7x the size of the input file.

Seems to be TUI, not command-line.

Cool.
For those who didn't already know it: Emacs also has a built-in hex editor. Just visit a file and type M-x hexlify-buffer.

it does not seem to be "command line", there are only two command line options and one of them is a config file location.
Perhaps author meant "terminal editor" or TUI?
