Show HN: GPT-4 eBook Translator – Read in Any Language

1 点作者 michaeloblak超过 1 年前
Hey Hacker News community,
I'm excited to share a project that's close to my heart and, I believe, a game-changer for book lovers around the globe. It's a GPT-4 powered tool that translates eBooks from any language into your native tongue, recompiling them into a perfectly formatted EPUB file.
My Journey: For years, I've been an avid reader, primarily consuming books in English. Despite English being my second language, it became my go-to for literature due to the sheer volume and variety available. However, I noticed something: when I read in my mother tongue, my reading pace accelerated, and the words resonated more deeply. I didn't just read; I connected with the stories on a personal level. No more dozing off mid-page!
One day, experimenting with GPT-4-Vision, I attempted translating a book. The outcome was astonishing. Not only was the translation fluid and natural, but it also retained the essence and style of the original work. This experience sparked an idea - why not make this accessible to everyone?
The Project: I've developed a script that harnesses the advanced capabilities of GPT-4 LLM, specifically the gpt-4-1106-preview (GPT-4 Turbo) model, to translate eBooks. It meticulously preserves every element - chapters, footnotes, you name it - in the translated version. The best part? It's open source, and you can tailor it to your needs.
I invite you all to try it, contribute, and join me in this mission to democratize literature. Let's make every book in the world accessible to everyone, in the language they think and dream in.
Check out the project here: https://github.com/jb41/translate-book
Looking forward to your thoughts, feedback, and stories of how it might change your reading experience!
Happy reading and translating
