I wanted to hate this article, but it actually had advice I've seen posted here many times. Some stuff IS better in person. But a lot is fine remote. And if you support your remote workers properly, even the ones who did better IRL can be pretty close to that remote too.
"[n]ot every worker is involved in the innovative core of the business — the part of the operation that's trying to come up with exciting new things. Yes, the product teams will probably stumble upon better ideas if they're together in person. But the people in roles like accounting, HR, and IT are there to support the innovators, not to innovate themselves. So they should be fine working from home. That's one reason companywide RTO mandates make little sense."

I've been working remotely since well before the pandemic and my current employer has international offices around the world. They have been setup for remote working for at least a decade, and it shows.
Many managers can't work well remotely, and so the team/projects suffer as a result, and they conclude that it doesn't work.
I will say that I don't really feel close to my team. Sure, we talk on Zoom every week (and sometimes daily), but it always feels like it's at distance (Aside from my manager, I've never met any of them in person). To me, this doesn't matter, because I have an active social life outside of work. To others, this might feel isolating if you need that social interaction.

A number of stories like this come from this site. Not sure if it is coincidence.
