European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying

Cookies play a vital role in session state storage, with privacy concerns mainly arising from third-party cookies. The current cookie banner law has led to confusion among non-technical consumers. Legislation, ideally, should avoid delving into technical details and instead focus on principles. Collaborating with entities like the W3C for a standardized browser-integrated approach, perhaps leveraging mechanisms like the ‘do not track’ header, could have been a more effective solution, ensuring user privacy without resorting to intrusive banners.

The biggest problem with cookie banners for me is that, for the vast majority of sites I visit, my preferences are not saved beyond the current session if I choose to Reject All tracking cookies. If I choose to Accept All, the banner is magically never displayed again.
