"But why would women choose a sector where the numbers indicate they aren’t welcome?"
I've known many women that got into STEM and dropped out. Why? Most don't want to sit in front of a computer all day without social interaction. Many moved onto things like digital marketing, sales, and social media.
I also really don't think women have been prevented from getting into higher positions of power and high-paying jobs for a long time. I've been consulting for two decades and worked with many companies in many different industries. I think I've reported to more women than men and there were many more women in upper-level management.

This is a BS article that revolves entirely around the author's pathological definitions of STEM education and StEM jobs as illustrated by this hilarious quote which implies learning math is useless for a career in finance and learning science is useless for a career in medicine.
> Many able STEM grads bolt for better-paying careers, especially in business, finance, management and medicine
