I read somewhere that in “engineering” kinds of businesses, Musk is constrained by the laws of physics, and operates well within those constraints. However, the “social media” business is unconstrained, or very lightly so (required content moderation etc.) and he not only behaves in “illogical” ways, but bitches mightily about any constraint (such as labor law, SEC regulations ) and even criticism, which in an engineering or scientific setting can be productive.
It is also troubling that so many Tesla design and manufacturing flaws are falsely claimed to be customer-caused, as has been reported extensively.
The algorithms seem to work OK with inanimate objects. Less so with people.
I work with one “people” algorithm: The Golden Rule. Sadly, people are more into projection of their own fears onto others.

Be a media whore and get lots of other people's money to fund your crazy ideas. One or two might be a success and justify your existence.
It also helps to start out with a lot of money so you can make unimaginable amounts.

If you're a business owner and you publicly misbehave, it can cost you serious money.

Elon has to be one of the least enigmatic people I've been aware of
