I love the site, but I keep thinking when I see illustrative things on columns and funary stonework "its art, not a map" -the shields in the pictures may well be right but they could be 20, 50 or 100 years out of context because artists use old things. The density of people could be right but it also is a neccessity of columnar art you crush things together to make it "fit" artistically. So inferring spacing from the column portrayal, or from the Bayeux tapestry would be a serious mistake. Not a mistake he makes, he's a pedant, he would have better sources than that.
