I wonder if Apple will reverse course on these. They did finally admit defeat on the butterfly keyboard and touch bar, but that took years (and a lawsuit, IIRC, for the former).<p>They could try to just improve them, but honestly it seems they are so bad that it's unlikely that an improvement will make them sufficiently popular.<p>In calculating their carbon footprint score from this transition, Apple should account for (1) the waste created by all of the cases that were returned, and (2) the fact that many people who tried these cases (or didn't even try because the reviews are so awful) ended up buying leather cases from third parties. That is, you don't get to claim to have reduced leather usage if people who used to buy leather cases from you now go buy them from other people.
