This is one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed being on the Mac. It always seemed like the 1st party software from Apple was nicer than the Microsoft equivalents, but also the 3rd party software also seemed better. It felt like it was being made by people who were passionate about the platform, rather than people just looking to get paid.
The state of software on Windows today would lead me to believe this is true. Those just looking for money have moved to web development, and no one cares enough to make dedicated Windows applications.
While Linux has a lot of passionate users, they tend to be engineers, not designers, so the apps tend to be a bit more utilitarian and ugly. While there are efforts going on to help change this, devs on macOS have a relatively solid design language to build from, while Linux is a bit of a mash up.
