Hey HN. I released qtile-bonsai [0] - a flexible custom layout for the qtile [1] window manager that lets you arrange windows as tabs, splits and even subtabs under splits.
For a quick feeler on what's possible, there is a short demo video in the README and there's a 'visual guide' [2] as a one pager cheatsheet.
The use case is when you want to generally do more within a single workspace (or a 'Group', in qtile parlance).
A couple examples:
- keep things like logs/servers/ssh/etc in the background, but pull them into view without losing sight of your main content
- presentations: keep progressive demonstrations as background subtabs
Give it a shot if you feel like it's time to review your desktop workflow!
---
[0]: https://github.com/aravinda0/qtile-bonsai
[1]: https://github.com/qtile/qtile
[2]: https://aravinda0.github.io/qtile-bonsai/static/visual_guide...
