Your average farmer:
Grows food of some type. Is deep in to market speculation (what do you think a corn or pig future is? A "grain" marketing plan is impressive!). Has technology that would leave most of us gobsmacked. Does their own mechanical work (welding to engine repair). Has fiscals that would make most run in fear of their complexity. Have CDL's and drive 18 wheelers... They are not stupid people by any measure, they are humble, hard working and would likely run rings around most of us.
Farm YouTube is a thing! The people there are likely on the other side of the political spectrum from you. You should listen to everything they have to say. You dont have to like it but you should hear all of it.

If I look at my country, South Africa, every part of the food production chain is in the hands of a small elite group of people. The production now mostly happens on massive, corporate owned farms, the distribution, sale and shops are all the same.
On top of that global food prices are increasing manipulated by international speculators and traders.
