If you use Selenium to scrape sites, telemetry may have been collected from you

The response from the devs is quite sad. They keep parroting over and over that it's GDPR compliant, as if that's all that matters. A tool widely used for automated testing is sending telemetry data to a third party over the internet. A tool that is widely used in private corporate networks, government networks, etc. How hard is that to understand? Make it opt-in, problem solved. Why do they have to be so stubborn about it? It just erodes our trust in them, because what other data collection will they naively implement in the future with no regard for their users privacy?

What the actual beep? As someone that works with GDPR on a daily basis, I must say that the cluelessness is astounding! They obviously don’t understand their change’s implications for a company using Selenium and the privacy issues caused. I see a fork in 3..2..1..

They don't need the metrics in the first place, should instead be pushing testing closer to development as opposed to deployment, and they are turning what used to be a simple tool into something which now is beaconing out like its some enterprise app.
