As everybody noticed AI hype is slowing down. And I was wondering what is the new hype gonna be? And I simply cannot find new theme that is on hype rise. Assuming that all Blockchain, NFT, IoT, Cloud is already finished its cycle. What do you think the new Hype will be?
Coming at this from a professional services angle — Client interest in NFTs/Blockchain/Metaverse is entirely dead. But AI is still top of the list for most organisations, even if there are some real issues with the current economics of it all. I think there's still another 6-12 months on that train.
But it’s a good question — the cycle is getting faster and faster. We're barely out of the dip on one hype-cycle before the next starts. I think the cycle stops after AI and things will get very tough for many organisations... at least for a little while. Many many more layoffs to come.
(I'm not sure whether Cloud was ever "hype," or if the hype was more "Big Data", but both have graduated into "just a thing everyone does now." Neither topic is going away...)
"VR/Metaverse" is still sore and bleeding from its last outing, so it can't be used again for a while.
"3D TV" probably hasn't got the legs to get out of the gate. Still recovering from its last show.
possibly its time for an introspective cycle, where we can solve all our problems by buying prayer rugs, beads, and crystals.
Right now, the thorniest issue is the integration with the organizations’ business processes. Liability is a big headache and besides some clearcut use cases, organizations still need to figure it out. But as a cognitive tool, I don’t think AI will ever die out. The current incarnation of LLM perhaps, but not AI in general.
The next generation of AI will have the ability to reason, to plan and execute according to the plan. And we will watch how it is going to transform humankind, forever.
Nothing mentioned by you except of NFT is slowing down: AI is not LLM, Blockchain is just a branch of Math which works according to Math's rules, IoT is still growing, Cloud approach is still a king of host platforms.
