Hey dang/HN,
Q: Is there a policy for AI bots on HN? If not, what are your thoughts on making one?
Background:
I was wondering if there are ways to automate certain common types of interactions on HN. Like dropping a comment with an archive.org link for paywalled stories or unfurling a twitter thread etc. Also, I am sure a lot of bots already exist for promoting some content etc.
Suggestion: IMHO, an official way to mark accounts as bots could be beneficial to the community and then penalizing those that are masquerading as real people.
It was addressed by dang in an earlier Ask HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33950747
"They're already banned—HN has never allowed bots or generated responses. If we have to, we'll add that explicitly to https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html, but I'd say it already follows from the rules that are in there. We don't want canned responses from humans either!"
The best way to reach him would be emailing: hn@ycombinator.com Please be patient as team dang get a lot of emails. It could be a day or so to get a response depending on how many things they are working on.
