I live in Japan and have a friend who moved back to Spain from Japan. They visit Japan this summer, and surprisingly told me they'd buy a lot of things there, to which I was surprised since it tends to be more expensive. He told me that, with kids, things like clothes and backpacks break in matter of weeks which makes no sense, so they were taking advantage of the trip to buy high quality clothes. I kept an eye and yeah, noticed it. So just watched this video that seems to perfectly explain the phenomena and wanted to share it in case anyone finds it informative!

I don't notice it much. Maybe because my lifestyle is too sedentary, or because I have almost nothing but cheap cotton/polyester stuff.
But it seems like shirts last 10+ years and shorts always last at least a few years, not great but nothing like some people claim.
Does silk/wool/etc wear faster than target/Walmart bargain bin stuff?
Are there some specific categories that are bad these days, in the way that people always say hand tools have gotten worse but people who mostly use power tools don't really notice anything, because brushless is so amazing?

Retail shopping malls are dystopian hellscapes. I get nearly all my clothes from vintage shops and companies founded by rock climbers.
