I just wanted freedom (I am 50m and never worked 'for' anyone); I know I/we work more for our own startups than I would ever do for a 'boss', but I can simply quit whenever I like and sell up and retire. Which I did several times, just don't like retirement; it sucks. So I do more startups, which are and have always been very well paid hobbies. At first this was dangerous, because I do not come from money, but my first startup made more from the get go than most people made and sold for a lot and so did my second. Never went to the office and never did anything I didn't enjoy for very long; I learned that I hate when a company grows over 50 people (my second had 300+); I enjoy the building, not the growing.
