> Slightly over a year ago, an idea for a new off-chain payment protocol for bitcoin was proposed
We've done the whole "design a user-friendly L2 protocol" thing like a hundred times already, and every time it fails for the same reason. You cannot "fix" a chain you consider to be broken.
Stuff like this is the reason why cryptocurrency as a whole is considered a joke of a market. They could be designing better clients to improve a protocol that isn't fundamentally broken, but instead hope springs eternal for the L2 chain based on Bitcoin. As a no-coiner with a technical interest in the scene, this is like watching someone bash their head against the wall to get rid of their headache. How many L2 chains need to die before people learn the lesson?
