TSMC may have breached US sanctions; Apple chip production could be at risk

Some things are not clear to me, maybe because I&#x27;m not native english.<p>For example I don&#x27;t understand this sentence : &quot;That ended when the US government imposed sanctions against China, prohibiting US companies from exporting advanced technology to the country. That included US-made 5G chips [...]&quot;.<p>From the wikipedia page of TSMC [0], I see it is a taiwanese company. Apple is a US customer from TSMC. It doesn&#x27;t make sense, TSMC is not a US company even though it seems it had exported technology to China. Did the US exported 5G chips to TSMC in order to make phones ?<p>It is written TSMC used US-made equipment to make the chips, but that does not make it a US company.<p>I think I am clearly missing something essential to understand the article.
