In August this year I was charged over $3,500 dollars for container image scanning from Google without notice or warning.
In May of this year we migrated all of our images from the Container Registry to the Artifact Registry, due to the upcoming deprecation. Google out of the blue decided to scan all of my historic images in the Artifact Registry without warning. This led to a 10x increase in my monthly spend. It's important to note that all of the images had already been scanned in the Container Registry, there was no reason to scan them again, much less bill me for them.
Despite my company working with Google for almost a decade I was never able to speak to a support representative (even via email). I passed the case along through my "Cloud Partner" where the ticket (if it even existed) was denied and went nowhere.
To me this seems like a pretty open and shut case where GCP made a mistake in their own product migration and I got the short end of the stick. The charge would be bad enough, but the complete lack of support or care is even worse.
