I’ve had a similar vague sense of AI worry as many others, but recently had to change home insurance carriers and “met” one of these things. Due to totally unexplainable new and expensive weather patterns in my area of the US, insurance carriers are fleeing the area, and anyone with a mortgage needs to find a new one. The insurance carrier requires a “virtual inspection”, which turns out to be fairly comprehensive video documentation of my home interior, exterior and property, via an app named Flyreel which is owned by LexisNexis. It uses “AI” to predict risk. The AI predicted a lot of risks in my home, including some stupid ones like “excess vegetation” (my flowering vines trellis) that it decided must be removed within 15 days. If I don’t have insurance by Jan 1 the bank will do even worse things to us. The apps ToS - which you must agree to to do the inspection - was what you might expect: limitation of liability, perpetual nontransferrable content rights, etc.
I’ve not only given my privacy up, but TO LEXIS-NEXIS (sorry for yelling), and an algorithm has determined what I am forced to do next and assigned the due date of Christmas. I am powerless to do anything about it, and now ai have a much more acute sense of worry for our future.
Life insurance renewal is going to be fun. Does Lexis do EHRs?
