Starbucks in current state is a great example of what happens in a scaling org that hits carrying capacity.<p>They argue we cant scale up/grow further therefore wages cant grow. But the truth is once you stop growing all the cash devoted to hundreds of new store openings every year has no where to go. It just keeps accumulating. They try all kinds of things and nothing really works cuz they have specialized to fill a niche. All other niches are already occupied by other specialists.<p>Reading large corp annual reports currently feels like we are in a state where everyone is hitting their carrying capacities. At the same time. They make up all kinds of stories about how they can keep growing but world wide pool of disposable income is hardly growing.<p>Its time for caterpillers to stop over eating and think about how the cocoon and transformation into butterfly emerge.
