A Paywall ruined that good article. I like the idea of Big Tech coming together for defense contracting, I was a federal contractor for AEPCO in the 1990s. The problem with the federal government is that they have old tech and no money available to upgrade the hardware or software to newer editions, I used to upgrade databases from DBase, Clipper, HPUX Oracle, DB2 on IBM Mainframes to SQL Server and MS-Access so they could use modern PC systems to make it easier to use. They still had 386DX PCs running MS-DOS mostly and I was granted a Pentium system with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 and no CD-ROM drive. To upgrade to Windows 95 I copied the install CD to a ZIP drive that used a parallel port.<p>Now we have AI and LLMs, and if they still use older versions of Windows like XP, 7, and 10, they won't be able to run Windows 11 unless they buy new machines. Most of the programs are written for Windows so you can't use MacOS or Linux on those machines. Some data is still on floppy disks and ZIP disks and modern systems might not be able to read them. It will take billions to upgrade the PCs to modern Windows 11 to run the latest software. If migrating to MacOS or Linux it will take billions in salaries to hire programmers to port the code to the new platforms.
