Probably ignoring the fact that if you split the two halves, the bottom half will likely develop on their own time, their top half. And without extraction of resources and all the other machinations of the former top half, this might happen faster than you think. The former top half did not spontaneously come into existence.<p>Now the question is, why do these halves always form? Because you will always have a spectrum between the curious and explorers, and those that just want to settle and be content with what they have. The latter tends to be larger because, I believe, it’s a state of equilibrium. Being a CEO or an astronaut is not stable in the least. It brings disproportionate benefits to humanity, but if we were all to be this way, we’d likely collapse as a species. So think of the current society’s structure as self balancing.
