Meta Now Lets Users Say Gay and Trans People Have 'Mental Illness'

I have a position in both the underlying debate, and to some extent in the debate on what the role of social media platforms is in these debates themselves.<p>But I don&#x27;t think my position matters, I don&#x27;t think a change in policy is enough to warrant retriggering this debate, I don&#x27;t think monitoring this is healthy, and I&#x27;ll pass on engaging, thanks.<p>Have a nice day.

I realise how good I did myself by abandoning most social media a decade back. I just do not feel a median brain can handle so much information, be expected to have informed takes on every topic under the Sun etc.<p>Ultimately the arbiters of legal&#x2F;illegal and good&#x2F;bad will change and continue to evolve with time but worrying about every instance or post beyond my control will not help me in any way nor the cause under concern.

Meta appears to have given up this fight to make the internet a better place by abdicating innovating in conversation moderation.<p>Sad that Meta is resorting to shifting the onus, and cost onto the user for maintaining Meta&#x27;s FB content value.<p>Sad that the smart, creative pals who work there haven&#x27;t been tasked &#x2F; brought helpful ideas to fruition on this issue.<p>Meaningfully, thumbs down.

The broader policy shift this announcement is part of reads as trying to curry favor with the incoming administration, and it’s really kinda disgusting to watch unfold.
