What’s the point of imposing sanctions on a Chinese company? What does that even achieve? Every single Chinese company is at some level, directed by the Chinese government. All of them are capable of inflicting damage if they have the ability to. So what is this action supposed to accomplish? To me it looks like this is just meant to placate Americans who are angered by the continued asymmetric warfare. In reality, politicians in countries affected by China’s campaign of asymmetric warfare need to really think about what their broader goals are with containing China, and take more impactful actions. For example, since the hackers from these companies can just form another company overnight, why not just sanction <i>all</i> Chinese companies and impose punishing tariffs? Yes it would be painful for the US and Europe but it could be crippling to the Chinese government, who is clearly directing these repeated cyberattacks.
