What are your plans to save your quality of life in the face of potential massive disruption?
Stocking up on food?
Buying tech stocks?
Stocking up on crypto?
Moving to New Zealand?
not at all. AGI is so far away, maybe my kids kids's kid's kids will see it... LLMs no matter how its marketed is no where near it. and integrating LLM into other tooling to 'control' things is also not AGI.
that being said its plausible some idiot will connect an LLM to something potentially destructive and cause a disaster. i dont think otd be some global skynet style meltdown though. maybe some brudge that opens when it should close or a dam that breaks or whatever.
that being said, if there was such a threat, my wifes from a nomadic tribe im the sahara so thats my plan. go into the sand where there is nothing for such a system to exert control on, nor anything for it to gain.
its also unlikely an AGI would see such an untechnological tribe or peoples as a threat to any of its objectives or goals so its unlikely to spend resources on it.
The general plan is to prepare for 2030, which always has been my yearly preparation. [0]
[0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42563239
I’m curious… why do you think New Zealand might be less affected by an AGI disaster?
For that matter, what is an AGI disaster, in your view? On a scale of “China stole my job” through “why are there so many hurricanes and forest fires these days?” to Skynet?
Personally, I’m trying to max out my pension contributions and hoping for left-wing governments being in power when the time comes (because right-wing and centrist governments will roll over and give AGI powered big business what they want when the time comes).
