Used to be I would find a ton of PHP jobs on a Who's Hiring post, or in job searches. But I have started noticing that the need for PHP has all but disappeared. I know it has to still be in some demand as I see way too many WordPress and Magneto sites in my job with a web hosting company. So what happened?
I wouldn't base your assessment of the number of PHP jobs on what gets posted on HN. Most jobs don't get posted online at all. Of those that do only a small fraction get on HN. This site targets startups, few of which will choose PHP because not cool.<p>Go to a PHP user's group meeting or conference, plenty of activity and work out there. Almost all of my freelancing clients have PHP in the mix, and not just WordPress.
They are still around. I noticed a couple that were posted recently since I have been looking myself. I think most places are just operating with alternative stacks<p>Searching for PHP jobs is usually tricky anyways. "Php" will commonly appear in job listings simply because the listings are hosted by some PHP application online
