If you do not enforce your own boundaries, nobody else is going to do it for you.<p>Anyway, the best on-call setup I had was when I worked at a hospital. Over the years, the doctors had driven how on-call works. If we got called, we got a minimum of 2 hours pay. If we concluded that problem, and got called again within the 2 hour window, we got <i>another</i> 2 hour minimum pay. We loved quick and easy calls. Being on call was either quiet or lucrative, depending on how the night/weekend went.
