Somewhat along these lines, I've been focusing on trying to get, on average, one mini-hobby-project "done" per month, even with very limited spare time. Something that only takes a couple of 1-2 hour weekend sessions. Three.js simulations, a locally hosted "continuously thinking" LLM test, toy data science projects. Hard not to think about the amazing shit I could do if all my time was open for leisure coding, but alas.
