- ends up x-posted hn same day<p>i’ve been on ap powered social media for five years now (that was fast) and when i first joined, i was confused about people boosting their own content<p>there’s a lot of human powered debates (contrast to algorithm powered debates) and this scenario reminds me that the consensus i saw come to was “this isn’t self aggrandizing, people that follow you on the other side of the world were likely asleep or working when you originally had your thought and since there is no algorithm, it is somewhat considerate to share relevant content with those friends, even if it is your own”<p>in this scenario, i imagine brian didn’t feel the need to repeat and rephrase himself, but amplify a still true statement that’s even more true given the constraints of other social platforms, e.g. engagement necessity by any means necessary. put another way, bots are a feature that increase shareholder value.<p>everyone breath a person wastes responding to a bot is a tick up and to the right.
