Have been thinking about this a lot lately: assuming AI advances to a level where it can autonomously operate as <HIRED-FOR-ROLE> with less than 1% errors, would you replace it with AI? Why or why not?
I'm old enough to know we already have and nobody gave it a second thought:
- When is the last time anybody took dictation?
- Switchboard operators were automated out of existence
- Remember the days if you needed a memo typed you would send your hand-written memo to the typing pool?
- If you needed copies you would hand-deliver your job to the copy machine operator. Heck, that was my first job in high school!
So...why would I expect AI to be any different? The past 150 years has shown us if a job can be automated out of existence, then it will be.
