Nvidia's k own evilness notwithstanding, I'd like to chip in with my experience trying to switch to o AMD: basically, the drivers were trash on windows and even worse on Linux, where they'd glitch out and not recover (at least windows does a "turn it off and back on again" at the driver level to work around it - and I could probably nearly mimic that except that running apps would also be taken down by the X restart)
When that GPU (EVGA, no less) suddenly decided not to turn on its own fans to cool itself, I switched right back to team green. At least shit works there. AMD's open source drivers never delivered the performance or reliability that they promised, and I ran out of fux to give - I just wanna jam a game with friends.
Not to mention AMD can't compete with RTX.
I'd love them to compete, and I'm rooting for Intel too, but at the end of the day, Nvidia's tactics aren't the only things keeping people with team green. Gamers want to game, not troubleshoot shitty crashing drivers.
