Ask HN: How can junior devs/designers get a job with Indie studios?

2 点作者 Quixotica12 个月前
I’m a senior DevOps engineer and I see a lot of job postings for my field and level, but I have someone close to me who just graduated last year and she has been struggling to get a job at any game studio for any role she qualifies for (junior game dev, or junior game designer) she’s now looking for QA roles as well.
Watching all of this it seems like it’s a Herculean task to get a job when you’re fresh out of college, especially in the gaming field.
I was wondering if anyone had advice for how to be more appealing to indie gaming companies so that she might have an easier time getting her career started.
Any thoughts/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would go off the beaten path and consider a career in slot machine companies. Assuming they learned Unity in school most of those companies are using unity or something similar. Aristocrat and companies like that.
If you truly mean Indie, and not AA with investment money, the vast majority of them hire freelance via discord, if they even hire at all. The small companies lucky enough to raise money tend to have extensive network they call on, which is how they got any money in the first place.
