Hi all, over the years I've been in #javascript the situation has only been getting worse, each year we lose over 50 members. In that rate, nobody will be left in the channel in a few years.
Why has this been happening? Because of bad governance and toxic behavior by the ops has resulted in a channel where everyone is afraid to talk. Because I've lived through it, the community used to be supportive, positive and everyone was excited about new projects. People were forking left and right and it was a healthy and productive environment. This is not the case now. All posts and discussions are met with toxicity, comments of the kind "you're doing it wrong" and "this is not needed", instead of encouraging the users and providing positive feedback, they get attacked, insulted, and the ops kick whoever they like, without any effort to maintain any kind of safe and healthy environment.
The result of all this is the channel is dead and there are no plans or discussions to fix it.
I've done multiple attempts to point out these issues and was met with total denial of the problem and rejection.
So I've decided to fork it, the new channel is now #jsland.
You are all welcome! <3
