Why I abandoned Google search after 27 years – and what I'm using instead

Finally an article which doesn't contain the "...and you should too" thing, which I personally find very annoying. I also left Google behind the day they automatically added a calendar event from and email I received, some 10 years ago. Is not that much, really, but it was just an eye opener.
With respect to Kagi, I tried it briefly and, hey, it seems fine. My personal problem is their price. I guess I could afford the 10 €/months, maybe, but I'm not sure I could justify that when I could (and actually did) simply set up a VPS with SearxNG in docker on it for less than half and have watchtower update it automatically, thus accessing many and diverse search engines at once. Basically, set and forget it. Still, I'm glad that Kagi exists, as one day I may decide to switch to it.
