Inactive components in agricultural runoff may contribute drinking water hazard

Inactive is the wrong term IMO, perhaps not bioactive would have been better to convey the additional components in herbicide that are there to stabilise spraying or what ever the application method.
The question now is, are there suitable safer replacements in the same price range? Stopping spray drift or increasing the herbicide application's resistance to being washed off by rain is probably going to outweigh the difficulties a water treatment plant might have with their current infrastructure treating problematic water.
It's though a good thing people are looking harder at secondary products.
