"Some" customers?!
Congratulations. We've now all been made to feel as if 15% is the absolute guilt-trip minimum that everyone should always be donating, regardless of service level. Fuck off. You haven't fooled me. Fast food, and anything else simply picked up after ordering, is never worthy of a tip. Customers never used to pay it, and employees never expected it. This is a manufactured symptom thanks to our reliance on instant/easy payment. I remember the time when you had to reach into your pocket and physically part with your money. That simple act alone made us all a lot more money conscious.
I'm not cheap, but I absolutely will not tolerate anyone who thinks I owe them at least 15% of the bill, by default, without even attempting to give a shit about good service.
If you're a business getting pinched by rising costs due to tarifs/COVID/solar flares/whatever, then simply raise your prices and keep it honest. You'll earn my respect, and future business, a lot more this way, rather than trying to smuggle it in under the illusion of "tip".
