I am a huge fan of the Commodore 64 and have built my own using modern replacement components and new-old stock with help from other retro computer fans in the office.<p>But the Commodore 64x and Commodore OS don’t mirror the spirit of 8bit micros. Hardware hacking, direct access to the CPU etc. The Commander X16 is probably the only true “modern” hackable computer in my opinion.<p>I just hope future generations can experience the power of completely open hardware and as a species we don’t “forget” how computers actually work.
