"Reduce, Re-use, Recycle" was a phrase coined in the 70s. We are 50 years deep into people saying, "Oh, one more little bit of waste won't hurt anything." Well, guess what - it did.<p>While the author's comparisons are accurate, the conclusion is not. We absolutely should be reducing what we already use, not being OK with burning even more.<p>Even the conclusion is backwards: "All the changes we can make in our personal consumption choices are nothing compared to what we can do if we contribute to making the energy grid green. "<p>The reality is if we had spent the last 50 years reducing our consumption, we would already be at 100% green energy. We are still burning fossil fuels not because we cannot produce green energy, but because we keep increasing consumption.
