About us:
Our website (http://www.makegameswith.us) teaches people (primarily high school and college students) how to build iPhone games. The site contains project based tutorials which culminate in building a clone of Angry Birds. After completing the tutorials, developers get started making their own original game. We also provide a toolkit to speed up development of games, along with forums to enable developers to show off their progress and get help. Once their game is nearly ready, we skin the game with professional art, and finally publish and promote the games for a share of the revenue. You can check out our first 10 games at (http://mgw.us)
About the job:
We're looking for a frontend UX/UI engineer to help improve our website's experience. Your goal will be to tweak and iterate on the front-end experience of the website to:
1) Increase the percentage of users completing the tutorials (we will iterate on the tutorial content while you iterate on the experience around them)
2) Get as many of those users to start building an original game and engaging with the community/showcase-their-game aspects of the website. Ultimately the goal here is to be a useful destination developers as they are developing their game which will ultimately result in more developers choosing to publish with MakeGamesWithUs.
3) Help foster a community where game developers, aspiring developers, and mobile gamers come to discuss games and give feedback/technical help to those currently making games or learning how to.
We will decide together what the most important metrics are and you will track those metrics and iterate until you get the results you are going for. You understand that how delightful and user-friendly a design is is hard to quantify, but you also understand what the changes you are making are meant to accomplish and aren't shy about trying new things and A/B testing to optimize for the desired result. You'll get a lot of control over our website's look and feel and by extension our brand image, and we'd like you to embrace that. And as an early employee at an early stage startup, you'll also get the opportunity to do a mix of other startup related tasks.
About you:
First and foremost we want you to be passionate about what you do. We'd also love if you were passionate about we do :) You'll need to be capable of doing all the frontend coding, and if you have experience with (or are willing to learn) Python/Django, that's a big bonus. We're currently a team of 4 who live and work out of a 4500 sqft house in Palo Alto, it would be awesome if you're willing to move in with us, although living elsewhere in the Bay Area works too.
Interested?
