Hey everyone,
My name is Alex, I'm a self taught full stack web developer. I've been learning for a year and a half. So far I've got familiar with today widely used technologies such as: Ruby on Rails, Javascript, HTML5, Sass, git, github, jquery as well as some initial understanding of Test Driven Development, DRY principles and Object oriented programming.
The thing is that I'm from almost siberia. I tried to land a job here and was surprised that very few people in my town knows what Rails is, so as you might guess there is not much perspective to grow.
I started to look for positions using Career 2.0, GitHub jobs and so on... But seems all of them requires 2-5 years of strong development experience and Computer Science degree. Yeah, I left my University where I studied Physics... I don't have any degree... and enough experience yet.
I'm interesting if there is any remote internships opportunities?
I'm actually not sure if I'm a job ready since I've never worked remotely in web development.
I've build this simple rails blogging app with user authorization and karma feature (think about it like Fb's likes), main page with sorting posts by date added and most liked from scratch within a 40 working hours including automated tests.
http://karma-blogger.herokuapp.com/
And I've build a web site with my friend remotely using github, so I have some initial experience of remote contributing.
I'm looking for a let's say a mentor to help me get myself job ready. Also any advice is highly appreciable.
I'm available up to 40 hours per week.
