So, after dumping my Dropbox account in favor of SpiderOak, I've been pretty happy with them other than waiting on a few more features with their mobile app. Well, last night their desktop client started telling me that I was over my limit, when I knew that I wasn't. I double checked my account and restarted the client. After a few minutes, everything was fine. Then, today I received this email:
--------------------
Hello,
Early this morning, you may have received a notice from SpiderOak that your account is out of space even if you have plenty of space available. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience! This was a server-side error which we have already corrected, so your account should be back to normal now. If you are still seeing the "Buy More Space" pop-up, please exit and restart the SpiderOak application. Any uploads which were in process will be re-added to the queue automatically.
Thank you for your patience while we resolved this issue!
Best,
The SpiderOak Support Team
--------------------
Followed by this email:
--------------------
Hello -
A few minutes ago I sent a message entitled "Out of Space Message" to approximately 500 affected users in an attempt to test automating this message. By accident, I included the email addresses of these users in the "to" line in plaintext. I am EXTREMELY sorry for this mistake and for the breach of privacy. I can only apologize for making such a terrible mistake and ask you to please delete the previous message as a courtesy to your fellow SpiderOak users.
Again, my sincere apologies for the error.
Best,
Laura
--------------------
Yes, the original email contained the contact info for numerous SpiderOak users. Even the most secure services can be compromised in some way, even if from within...
